A first birthday session to remember!

There are some sessions that feel special the moment they're booked, and Parker's first birthday session at Mint Room Studios in Miami was one of those. Not just because she's an absolute joy to photograph, but because this milestone marked the close of a full chapter, one I've had the honor of documenting from the very beginning.

I first met Parker's family when she was still tucked safely in her mama's belly. We captured their pregnancy announcement, then their maternity session, then her newborn portraits in those tender first weeks. And now, somehow, we were celebrating her first birthday. Watching a baby grow up through my lens, season after season, is one of the most meaningful parts of what I do and Parker's story is one I'll carry with me for a long time.

Why Mint Room Studios Was the Perfect Choice

For Parker's first birthday, we chose Mint Room Miami, and it ended up being such a beautiful fit for the kind of imagery her family was hoping for. The studio is bright, clean, and modern, with soft, gorgeous natural light pouring through the windows. It has that fresh, airy feeling that lets the focus stay exactly where it should be, on the baby.

A studio like Mint Room acts as a blank canvas. Without busy backgrounds or competing distractions, every detail becomes a little more visible: the way Parker's eyelashes catch the light, her wispy hair that’s getting longer and longer, the curl in her hair that didn't exist a few months ago. Studio sessions are especially wonderful for capturing personality shots and solo baby portraits, because the environment is calm, controlled, and entirely centered around your little one.

If you're trying to decide between a studio or outdoor first birthday session, I actually wrote a full guide on this you can read it hereto help you weigh both options and figure out what feels most aligned with your family. For Parker's family, the timeless, modern feel of Mint Room was exactly the direction we wanted to go.

What We Captured

Parker's session had a beautiful flow to it. In just 1 hour we were able to capture so much! We started with family portraits, her mama and dada holding her, snuggling her, the three of them just being together. These are the images I always encourage families to make space for, because one day Parker will look at these photos and see exactly how loved she was at one.

From there, we moved into her solo portraits and personality shots. This is where the magic of a studio really shows up. We captured her little expressions, her detail shots. The tiny fingers, soft cheeks, that big personality starting to peek through. Bright natural light, neutral tones, and a clean white backdrop let every one of those details shine. I brought my classic neutral basket and we utilized simple neutral balloons, florals and of course the adorable 1 balloon floated in the background.

We ended with the moment she'd been waiting for: her cake smash. There's truly nothing like watching a one-year-old discover cake for the first time. Parker took her time, studied it, then went all in and the joy on her face is something her family will get to relive forever. Sticky fingers and frosting everywhere, we got adorable photos documenting her first real taste of cake!

Watching Babies Grow Up Is the Greatest Gift

When I first started photographing families, I didn't fully understand how special it would feel to grow alongside them. To meet a baby in their mama's belly and then, again once she’s holding that baby in the nursery. To be able to hand the family several galleries that tell the entire story — from pregnancy announcement to maternity to newborn to first birthday — it's a kind of full-circle gratitude that's hard to put into words.

Baby Parker, it’s been a joy to document your first year. To her family, thank you for trusting me with your story. It has truly been an honor.
